Happy Mothers Day

Every year a group of our friends and us catch up at a Mothers Day barbecue.
This year it was out turn to host it.

Jed and Hugo were up early this morning setting up the site whilst the girls and I prepared the vitals.

We all pool the food, this year I did my egg&bacon salad and made a big pot of chicken soup to keep us going waiting for the meat to cook.
The soup was a hit and I will definitely do that again.

Jed snitched some gates from the stock yards and built a barricade around the bonfire which worked really well at keeping little ones a safe distance away.

We usually cook on the fire but we decided to use gas BBQ's for more relaxing cooking. Another good change-evenly cooked meat instead of black on the outside and raw in the middle!

A bed sheet came in handy as a table cloth.

Hugo made some great little lanterns from jam jars and wire with tea lights in them. He hung then from the trees and they looked gorgeous when the clouds came over and it was dark and gloomy.

I took lots of woolly blankets for cold knees.
And squishy cushions to up the comfort level of deck chairs.
Jed even carted out my deck sofa for the Grannies.
It was a lovely setting.

Unfortunately, there were several couples on the sick list and others had prior engagements.
So we made a tiny but very congenial party.

This darling Nana didn't stop still all day!
She walked hoards of little explorers through the bush, built cubbies, sang songs and did every little thing a  grand child could desire of a grand parent.
Even to the grand children that were not her own.

The older children built forts and held paddy melon wars and there were a few tears....but far more whoops of joy!
How does one end a perfect day I hear you ask? Well, what better thing then a poodle cake!
Baked by the lovely Nana aforementioned.

As for the presents?

A beautiful wooden ring form my love

I love this because she gave me skinny arms!
