Doe for Dear Zara.

It was definitely Zara's turn.
And she was coveting the Deer and Doe Belladone dress
But sewing a new pattern, in black fabric, with lots of binding was a challenge for my first garment post-surgery.
But she is totally worth it!
The dress was a beautiful sew.
Deer and Doe are from France but they have instructions written in English as well as in French.
The instruction are, well, neat&tidy.
They are not padded with a lot of fluff but get the message across well.
I like them.
The back is a beautiful piece of binding and cross over panels.
The dress pulls over the head and is then zipped up.
The hem has a separate facing a la oliver+s.
I used a normal zipper as it was all I had to hand in black but an invisible zip would give a cleaner result.
And it has pockets!
Zara loves the pockets.

All in all a big success.
A gorgeous frock Zara can dress up for a wedding or wear with flats and a belt for a more casual look.

I can't wait to show you modelled pictures.

  1. This is lovely and I'd definitely wear this dress. When I see you make theses dresses I want them, whereas the modelled pics on their website do nothing for me. Welcome back and well done!

Zara chose and purchased this pattern herself, It was a good buy as it fits her perfectly.

    1. Thank you Sharon, I was so nervous when I started sewing this but It was a good solid pattern with well cut pieces.
The bodice is high waisted which I think can be very flattering on a curvier girl so I am seriously considering making myself a navy blue version.

    1. Thank you Deb, it was a scary dress to start back with but it turned out fine and my beautiful girl has been such a help I thought she deserved it.

I actually enjoyed taking my time and sewing it with patience.

It is a lovely pattern, the third Deer and Doe I have sewn and I really enjoy them and really enjoy the fact my daughters have found a groovy stylish pattern company we both like.

  6. It turned out perfect.
I find it so difficult to sew with black fabric and black thread, it's such a challenge to do all the details since it is so hard to see what you're doing.

    1. Thank you Rachel.
I have really good lighting built into my sewing room and a nice sunny window but, boy, I struggled!
My eyesight seems to have deteriorated a little. I may need to get it checked if it doesn't get any better.
I have given up fighting my girls about wearing black, they look good in and wear it with good accessories.
Its a good thing I have more little girls.

  13. So neat and tidy (and black to boot)! My mother just started sewing for ME again this year. It turns out the feeling of a new dress made by your mommy never gets old. I hope she enjoys it, and glad to hear you were well cared for.

  15. It's really a gorgeous dress! I've been coveting all these Deer & Doe patterns you've been making (especially the coat!) but have balked at the shipping costs thus far.

    1. Thank you Joy. I must admit, Zara paid for them and I don't even know what the postage was!
I am John Howard and the proverbial carton of milk on that one.

I shared postage with a girlfriend when we went on a P&M pattern splurge....

      Thank you!
